About this course
The Certificate III in Individual Support reflects the role of support workers who provide person-centred care and assistance to individuals in community, home, residential, aged care and disability support settings.
Students develop the practical skills and knowledge required to support people to maintain their independence, wellbeing and quality of life while working under supervision as part of a multidisciplinary team.
The course focuses on delivering individualised support, communication, legal and ethical practice, infection prevention and control, workplace health and safety, and supporting diverse individuals.
Learners gain industry-relevant experience through practical training and mandatory work placement in real care environments.
This qualification provides a pathway into the growing aged care, disability support, and home and community care sectors.
Program content
The training program covers 15 units of competency — 9 core units and 6 elective units — including practical training and mandatory work placement in real care environments.
Resources
Students are provided with learning materials, assessment resources, trainer support and access to practical learning activities designed to reflect current industry standards.
Reassessment
GITE provides students with opportunities for reassessment and additional support where required, in accordance with its assessment policies and procedures.
Recognition
Successful students will be awarded the nationally recognised qualification CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing and Disability). Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Credit Transfer may be available for eligible applicants.
